I literally could feel my right hip & leg fizzing and releasing.

My hip pain started in 2022, very much on and off and then more frequently through mid-end of the year. It appeared as tightness in the hip joint with a pinching sensation, only on the right-hand side. I could feel it at the front of the right leg running into the quadriceps and on the top of the right glute. Less frequently but at its most painful, it would extend into a pinching sensation in the middle of the right glute and sometimes a dull ache in the IT band which is at the side of the leg.

The pain level was mild most of the time as I could stretch it out with my foam roller or fascia stretching movements but when I went running the pinching pain in my glute and the front of the hip joint would increase.

I started to have massages more frequently as I thought it was related to tightness in the hips and possibly the amount of strength training. These certainly helped but didn’t release the pinching sensation for long.

In February 2023 I decided to stop running for a while to focus on stretching, giving myself time to work on reducing/eradicating the pinching as it caused real discomfort. I spent time tuning into my body attempting to figure out what movements were required to release the pain.

I was introduced to Karen through a mutual friend, and we had some great conversations about the body, how it works, and we shared a common interest in helping people connect with their body more. That was a huge deal for me and yet I knew it was the right thing to do (and a requirement) for the work to do its work! It was gentle, with no amplifying of the pain. Rather an easing of it, bit by bit.

I had a profound experience 5 weeks in during a long meditation session where I literally could feel my right hip & leg fizzing and releasing. It was intense literally feeling through the internal change. Fascinating.

7 weeks in the pinching/tightness stopped. Whilst there is still some stretching work to be done to loosen the hips more, the pain has been released and I now know the exact pain point. That means I can continue my stretching routines with more knowledge than I had before working with Karen. So even if there were any doubts lurking in my subconscious, they have been quashed.

Karen’s insightful approach has encouraged me to continue to deepen my body connection because pretty much everything we need to know is going on with us is held in the body. The more we tune in, listen and begin to understand what it is asking for, and meet those needs, the better quality of body movement, sense of freedom and enjoyment of life we experience.
